Batman(2021) trailer: Analysis

The teaser trailer for the 2021 Batman movie is out and it's getting a lot of attention from fans across the world. There's already so much speculation about this movie. The movie is being directed by Matt Reeves and it stars Robert Pattinson as the lead character.
Now, let's get into the trailer and I'm about to share what I made out of it.

1. The premise

The premise of this new Batman movie looked somehow similar to Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight'. The trailer doesn't reveal most of the things about the movie but it engages the viewers into thinking about it. Gotham City is once again a victim of organized crime and the man who is at the center of it is The Riddler. According to the director, this movie will be more of a detective-crime thriller than a superhero-action movie. That would be very exciting for the viewers because we never saw Batman as the 'World's greatest detective' on-screen before.

2. Robert Pattinson's take on the role

Many legendary actors such as Michael Keaton, Adam West, Ben Affleck, Christian Bale have taken the role of the caped crusader, so it won't be an easy task for Robert Pattinson to outshine them and give the character his own touch. But how much do we know from the trailer?
Bruce Wayne is undoubtedly one of the most complex and multi-layered characters of the DC universe, and it is expected that the movie will touch the psychological aspects of this character. From the trailer, Bruce Wayne looks quite determined on what he has to do, however it looks like there'll be a big transition of the character.

In this particular scene, we see an angry Bruce Wayne who is confronted by The Penguin. However, after the transition, we see a change in the looks of the character.

In the final scene of the trailer, we see a change in the looks of Bruce Wayne. For some reason, he is wearing eye shadow and his hair is messy. Does it mean he has gone through some psychological trauma? The trailer doesn't answer that.

3. What new should we expect?

Most of the things about the movie should be new. We see Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Penguin. The cast is completely different from the other entries and never before we saw these four characters together on screen.
Apart from that, we get a new look at the Batsuit which looks really cool.

Other than the Batsuit, we also get a look at the brand new Batmobile.

The new Batmobile

From the picture above, we can definitely say that the Batmobile looks totally different from the one of Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy. The automobile looks much more realistic than its previous entries.

4. The villains

Now, Batman is the one hero who has encountered many legendary villains of the comic book world. The role of the villains will definitely set the tone of the movie. It is confirmed that we will have The Riddler as the major villain and The penguin alongside him. We do not know their motives yet. But, there's still a possibility that we may see Catwoman as a villain in this movie.

In one particular scene, we see Catwoman fighting against Batman. In Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, we see Catwoman as an antihero and a sidekick of Batman. But will we see her as a hero or as a villain in this movie? we can't say that yet.

5. The tone of this movie

From the trailer, it is very clear that the movie will have a grounded approach. We will definitely not want to see Batman fighting against some super-powerful extraterrestrial beings as that would be ridiculous. The movie will bring out some real issues of society and Batman's ideology.
The trailer has a very dark tone, literally very dark( sometimes it is hard to see what is happening). The dark tone may indicate the social premise of Gotham city. In 'The Dark Knight' we see Batman fight against chaos and we see how he restored the faith of the common people to the society. This movie seems to have a similar tone and that is good.
In one particular scene, we see Batman facing off against some goons. As one of the goons approaches to physically confront Batman, Batman beats him up well and says he is vengeance.

Now, in the above picture, we can see the reaction of the other boons as they see one of them getting beaten up. They looked worried and afraid. Now their reaction can indicate many things as they know their path is wrong and they are considering to rethink their choices or they are surprised by the combat skills of Batman.

That was my analysis of the trailer. Hope to see the movie on the big screen.
