Tom and Jerry(2021) trailer review and analysis

It is finally the time when we get to see the "Mouse in Manhattan" for one more time and this time in the big screens. The world's most famous frenemies on-screen are back again with a movie and it is a big moment for the fans who grew up watching them. The movie features Chloe Grace Moretz in the lead role and Michael Pena.

Trailer Review:

The trailer for the Tom and Jerry movie was released on November 17th and it looks pretty promising. It starts with Tom and Jerry walking together on the road and suddenly Jerry tricks Tom into a run over by a bus(Quite a violent opening for a kid's movie). Later it is revealed that Jerry currently resides in a luxurious hotel in New York City and Tom is hired to get rid of him.
Tom and Jerry movie will be a part-live action movie. This is the first time we get to see the duo in 3d and it is interesting to see how this turns out. The bar is already set by a 1988 movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" which was a commercial success and a widely recognized movie. In this trailer, we see the duo in 3d interacting with the real-life characters. This is the first time we see something like this in a Tom and Jerry movie and it will be interesting to see how this will turn out.

As I mentioned earlier the premise of the movie is a big wedding in New York City. The wedding takes place in a luxurious hotel and Chloe Grace Moretz, who is playing the role of Kayla is the host of that wedding. The wedding looked like an Indian style wedding with lots of flowers and costumes and there are also elephants. Kayla sets up Tom cat to catch the mouse and the rest is just the cat and mouse chase. One thing I noticed about the trailer that the violence is not toned down. There's a lot of fighting between the cat and mouse and they are brutal! Just like the cartoon series, Jerry outsmarts Tom in most of the times and stands victorious.

I am a bit confused about the movie's target audience. The trailer has many references of the cartoon series and movies of that era. The movie is most enjoyable to those who grew up watching Tom and Jerry in their childhood and they are certainly not kids of the new generation. The movie has many scenes that are inspired by the series. In one scene Tom was seen playing the piano which is a reference to the "Cat Concerto" episode in 1947. In another scene, Tom was trying to fly with hand made blades and chases down jerry. There are two references in this scene, one is from the 1952 episode "The Flying Cat" and the other is from the 1989 Batman movie. Except these, there are also other references like Jerry walking through Tom's ears, etc.

The slapstick comedy movie is set to release in March 2021, and hopefully, it will be released on the big screen. Hopefully it will not upset the audience whose childhood revolved around this iconic duo of cartoon history.
